Open 2017: Platform Cooperatives

I guess a few of us will be at Open 2017: Platform Cooperatives -- "A two day conference on the collaborative economy" -- February 16-17: Goldsmiths, University of London and I was wondering @josefdaviescoates is there anything planned for the evening of the 16th -- could we have a Co-operative Technologists social gathering somewhere and also throw it open to the other co-operators in London who are not at the event?

I've spoken to Andy again and have arranged to meet him on Wednesday to pay the deposit. Let me know if there's anything in particular anyone wants to know about the venue and I'll be sure to check it out.

One slight spanner in the works is that I think we're also planning on having our Speakers Dinner on Thursday night too, and I think at least some of you have put yourselves down for that...

actually, I think at least 10 people who've said they want to join speakers dinner are folks who are part of this Co-op Tech network too... but I'd guess you'd rather join these drinks?!? @harryrobbins @edrussell @bevangelist @constance @sionwhellens @dougbelshaw @laurahilliger @timdavies1 @jackthorp & Bryan from We Are Open Co-op too...

So even more reason to combine the two somehow, or for us to have speakers dinner on Fri (despite the fact some may be heading off home straight after and so wont be able to make it)...

Thoughts anyone? Thanks!

Perhaps we should combine the two? Or not?

A spanner indeed, @josefdaviescoates :-)

I wonder whether it'll help us make a decision if we define what this CoTech social is? I'm not really sure what other people are thinking so, in order to start with something, how about we make this a CoTech sponsored social that's open to anyone at the conference plus anyone in the CoTech network not able to make it to the conference?

If we describe it like that then it sounds as though it could work well for the Friday evening drinks that Josef mentioned earlier. An advantage of this is that it resolves the conflict with the speakers dinner. Disadvantages are that we might have to find another venue and that a number of people (including Harry and Chris from this thread) won't be able to attend.

@josefdaviescoates: If we stick with the plan of hosting the social on Thursday, how feasible do you think it is to combine it with the speakers dinner somehow? I presume at the very least, the attendees of the speakers dinner could join the social a bit later.

As a reminder I'm currently planning to pay the deposit for the venue tomorrow. I'm sure we can delay a few days but I don't want to keep them hanging on too long.

Have you thought about when these drinks might start? I'm guessing immediately after the conference ends on Thurs? (currently 17:45)

If so, I think our current thinking is to tell people about these drinks/ launch/ whatever they are and then walk to somewhere local around 8pm for the speaker dinner (or maybe even have the speaker dinner upstairs in the Take Courage room - could you ask if you visiting if that'd seat 60 people for sit down dinner?)

Thanks!

Josef.

Yeah, I reckon we'll book it from 6pm.

This makes it sounds as though I can safely pay the deposit. Does that sound OK to you @josefdaviescoates?

Andy (Amersham Arms) thinks this'll be fine. I'm waiting for him to put me in touch with the person that does their catering so I'll let you know as soon as I hear so that you can decide whether it looks suitable.

Excellent, thanks Chris.

I'd say go ahead and put that deposit down (for the drinks) if you've not already done so :)

Hey @josefdaviescoates. I spoke to the Amersham about catering for 60 people upstairs. They suggested either using https://caribbeanstreetfoods.wordpress.com or sourcing your own caterers - they don't prepare food themselves. I'm waiting on confirmation as to whether you'd be able to have 60 people seated in there, or whether it's better suited to a combination of some seating and some standing.

I went and looked at the room upstairs at the Amersham Arms when I was down in New Cross last week and I think they are completely mad to think we could get 60 people in there for a sit down dinner (and it's a bit grotty too).

Our speakers dinner will now almost certainly be at The Rose down the road, probably from around 8pm.
