Hey @silkehelfrich I am a latecomer to the planning but am interested too. (fm Letting Space New Zealand and formerly Loomio; spatial commons and artistic practice is my research currently). Looking forward to meeting you.
What about the ICAB meeting rooms? Is there any budget?

@sophiejerram great, I've just put 9 instead of 8 ppl in the mail that I just shared, are you reading along the commonswatch- list? Did you get it? Unfortunately ICAB is too far away from the Parliament! Some of us only have 1,5 hours ... so it needs to be very, very close to the Parliament. Ideas welcome!

Hi, I'd be very glad to participate !

Also wanting to participate! (and one thing that came to my mind, is how different we can use a map. Forinstance, do we map; or do commoning initiatives self identify with the ECA process and want to come on board of an ECA map, indicating want to cooperate, etc. )

What has been discussed so far in the list: (uncomplete list of e-mails)

Dear Sunna and colleagues,

I agree that we shall support and render more visible the existing mapping initiatives based on open source, instead of proposing new initiatives. My point is that we need to reinforce these mapping exercise, and to make them work together and connected. Otherwise, they will remain fragmented and poorly known. And the mapping tools shall be available y several languages. I have seen that Grunanteil is in german. The mapping tool could benefit from Wikipedia experience.

Additionally, I think it is important to have separated mapping exercise (with the same tool but different public) and therefore different filters in the tool. Not everybody is interested about all the commons, so labeling mapping exercises by topic could help filling the open database.

And, finally, although working autonomously and in decentralized way, it could be good to articulate this mapping exercise with the European Parliament and the European Official Statistics, so as to link collective actions boosted by citizens (or citizen knowledge) with official knowledge and representative democracy (represented in the Parliament).

best regards

Jose Luis

Dear Ana and Jose Luis,

I find the proposal good, as well, but as there are a multitude of mapping initiatives already on the way (e.g. Transformap, Grünanteil etc. etc) I would not propose a new mapping initiative but instead try to pack the existing information so that it is accessible to the MEPs, and discuss or figure out, what would be the best format to reach the MEPs

Best regards,
Sunna

    Hello again,
Is a good proposal and also could be shared in the Assembly with our dear Marisa Matias-MEP. She is working with the "baldios" land commons in Portugal.

    Thanks for the information.

    Dear all,

... [1] Mostly used for grazing, common lands still cover 9 percent of the surface of France (Vivier, 2002), for example, more than 10 percent in Switzerland, 4.2 percent in Spain (Lana-Berasain & Iriarte-Goni, in press) and 4 percent in England and Wales. http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20130123162956/

It could be good to be able to map the existing commons in Europe (collectively owned or not), legally supported or informal, natural or man-made, and how they contribute to support the current economy and society? As Silke Helfrich rightly says: the Commons are all over, but most of us do not see them.

Perhaps, this initiative to Map the Commons could be undertaken with the support of the European Parliament. That would help them to understand the Commons and issue regulations to protect/support them.

    Best

Hi, I'm not sure if I'll be great help with this, but I am very interested in attending. I do a podcast about CC music and free culture, and I'll be attending the assembly, so I'd like to sit in in as many events possible.

I'm Alba Grande, I'm from Galiza (Spain) and currently live in Brussels. I'd like to be part of this list of work and discussion. The organization of which I am part in Galiza is Rede GzImaxinaria-network where certain groups of Galiza and North of Portugal. Some of them projects associated in this network is linked to the figure of the "montes en man común" or "baldíos" (portugal). I would like to connect our networks and discover how joint efforts; by that, I am personally interested in learn about the development of this program of mapping with you and also on the discussions on them figures of land communal and their uses.
Unfortunately do not know for the moment nowhere near the European Parliament...

Just I see in the final programme, the asignated place for this meeting:
"[12:15 –13:35] Mapping Workshop at Mundo-b (FT room) |Rue d'Edimbourg 26, 1050 Ixelles". Is this the appointment, no?
