On 9th February me and 2 other Belgian pirates we were at the PPEU Congress in Luxembourg. Many European Pirate Parties signed the Common European Election Programme (CEEP). PPBE has not decided yet to run for the elections to the European Parliament (EP).

Let's talk about:
- Shall we collect the necessary 5000 signatures?
- Shall we sign the CEEP?
- Who is interested on being in the list?
- How to run the campaign?

Looking forward to meeting all of you soon! :)

Bonjour,

Hello,
If nobody else proposes, my going health by improving, I am inclined to join on the European lists for the elections.
I find for example that three axes defended for the Walloon regional elections could be also Defended and transposed into the European level.
So, for example, I witnessed a problem of transparency in the past at the level of the composition of the European state employees.
I looked for a job and I had made an unsolicited application as a European state employee, by considering that the disabled people were under represented in the population which made up her (I had never seen of nobody handicaped European state employee in the media). The service of recruitment had sent me flying. I had asked the service concerned to indicate for the number of handicapped persons state employees parmis 20 000 employees who make up the European administration. I had seen answering that this information was confidential and that the service could not communicate it to me. I had introduced an appeal with the European mediator to Strasbourg and This one had invited me to repeat my demands in writing to being able to confirm what I brought back otherwise than by telephone.
Unfortunately, I was not able to follow up this project because my health had degraded in the intervalley and because I was not anymore able of assuring the slightest function.
I think that this situation continues even today (I did not verify).

Hallo,

PPBE has not decided yet to run for the elections to the European Parliament (EP).

Actually, we discussed this in the Pirate Lab of October, and the 11 participants decided to focus on the regional elections.

I'm saying this because I'm a bit surprised to see your gathering now. But if you think you can collect 5000 signatures in one month, then that's all fine I guess.

Also, I am not sure @bobrappe knows this but European election are not a unique list for whole Belgium but are actually different lists presented, one in Flanders and one in Wallonie (and Each of the list mustggather 5.000 signatures). Which actually fits our past discussion and decision to work in 2 regional groups (for whatever election).

Hi HgO, thank you very much for making me aware of that discussion. I didn't know anything about it until now. As the European elections are approaching, some might have changed their mind. The thing is that the momentum was great at the PPEU congress, and there was a big sense of excitment about getting as many pirates into the European parliament as possible. For instance, I liked this talk a lot, it gave me inspiration (from min 4): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlcFy1T6d_M
If there would be a group focused on the regional elections, and another on the regional elections, I guess it is fine?

Renaud, you are correct, according to this page (http://www.europarl.europa.eu/workingpapers/poli/w13/country_en.htm#belgium), "Lists of candidates must be endorsed by at least five Belgian Members of Parliament belonging to the relevant linguistic group or by the signatures of at least 5000 voters registered on the relevant electoral roll (for the Walloon, Flemish or Brussels-Hal-Vilvorde constituencies); or 200 voters registered in the German-speaking constituency."

We'll take that information into account during our deliberation.

Regards,
David

I think you should anyway talk with the people running for the regional elections in Flanders, as in the end you will have to share the same budget for the elections (1500€).

Could you add a link to the ceep? Only thing I find is articles about it and the ceep from 2014

For the EU elections, we also covered a big part in our article about entering the elections[1]. Besides the info already mentioned in this thread, the list needs to consist of minimum 7 people, 1 "titularis" and 6 "opvolgers". There needs to be a 50/50 men/women ratio on the whole list as well on the "titularis" and "opvolgers" part. The people on the list don't need to be Belgians per sé, they just need to live in a EU country and have a EU nationality.

Personally, I don't believe we'll have someone elected and signing the ceep seems more symbolic to me, but having an EU list would be very nice. You have my autograph (so only 4999 to go :p ).

It's possible, I don't remember well how it was published. Is it this one : https://www.loomio.org/d/Sm1vNuCl/-post-published-dutch-explanation-about-participating-in-the-elections ? (then there is a French translation, but unpublished ?)
