My general thoughts are: There is a plethora of crypto coins (otherwise know as "shitcoins") - I own several bags. These are issued to support a variety of causes some absolutely mindblowing in concept and management , the vast majority however are mediocre scams. My question is which is this project to be? ...... and what mechanism other than the wisdom of crowds, which is all I can see at the moment are you employing for quality control?

BTW I've read your thesis ....

There are a lot of questions about quality control. My response is that the first phase is to get a ‘bank’ of work licensed - rather than talk about it. You have to have something in hand to ‘sell’. Not that I’m doing the selling… I’m not, at this stage interested in shitcoins or promises. The ‘value’ is the work itself. I’m not going to pretend its all about high art or about art at all. What it’s about is community, localised ownership, management of assets and creating sustainable routes to market which are currently barred (IP).
‘Quality Control’ is going to be a job for overseeing the ethical use of assets and the ethical distribution of incomes. Curating assets ( quality control) is a benefit which participants might feel once there is some income flow to finance that kind of work. As I said John, I have a 'business plan’ and it needs updating and revising in the light of full scrutiny - so thanks for engaging and reading the thesis.. (also imperfect I Know).

I don’t think it’s necessary to have all the answers. I think it’s necessary to build partnerships as nearly every part of this project is already being done by another org, company etc. It’s just about knitting them together… which isn’t being done.

There will need to be a steering group of some kind - perhaps an executive committee…? Open to thoughts on that…?

Ultimately, it’s a coop/mutual bank so it’ll have to be run along those lines.

It’s also a long haul project - you and I won’t see the end of it I’m sure! ;-) As I think you mentioned to me once though - our kids might….

Best Wishes

Maybe its because this project is so conceptual at this stage its difficult to put a handle on it. I do wish you well though and am happy to help however I can, I don't know if Im available on Friday eve yet as Im in London during the day and sometimes things run on . The suggestion about getting a site up and going seems a good step forward?

...or if you could describe it in one clear, (maybe colloquial ?) sentence... e.g..... a decentralised Facebook ( wouldn't that be nice?)

Liam, in terms of conveying an idea as effectively as possible; 'Elevator Pitching' is a useful exercise in crafting something fairly robust...

Something I've found, that works for VCs/Investors and collaborators and customers alike is a short conceptual animation or storyboard encapsulating a simple 'real-world' example. About 6-8 frames or so and the type of thing an illustrator could produce in a couple hours. The RSA animate series is a great example of the former...

Great information visualisation.

Ps. Unsure what has already been considered/discussed so please excuse any repetition of concept.

Ok, so..,
It’s a platform coop for cultural commons collection and community rights management.

That’s the handle!

If it seems conceptual it’s probably because there aren’t many well known precedents - tho obviously there are thousands of coops and commons based activities..

There is an Open Collective site (for participatory accounting by partners and peers); A curated content site on Twitter, a website (under development so not sharing as that will effectively be ‘the product’); this Loomio - for research, development and peer appraisal and about 4 years of research (which I last collected in the thesis you read, but that’s moved on a lot since then). There’s also a Business Plan, which I am updating as we speak to finance ‘phase two’: Focus Groups/MVP/Proof Of Concept.

Maybe a separate website as a ‘landing page’ to ‘explain’ would be a good idea, but i’m reactant as a website is not a good platform for collaboration across a wide group of interested people… hence Loomio!

It would be great if you can come but if not, how about having the next one in Lowestoft? Would need a room in exchange for drinks at the bar with space for at least 20 people and a bit of entertainment...

Liam.
