Supporting non-English users

If someone emails contact@loomio.org in English or Spanish, we can handle that, but what should we do when we start receiving support requests in Portuguese, Romanian, French, etc?

How should we communicate our limited support capacity?

I think that if Loomio is translated in 5 or 30 languages it doesn't mean that support is provided in all of them. There could be a group of people wanting to assist with different languages but if for a certain language there is nobody available a reply can be send in the language of the sender - which can be very well available in standard translation file- or in English saying that there is no support availability in that language and asking if possible to send questions in English.

I think before we release a language version, we might want to set up a loomio community group for uses of that language, so they can post there and support each other. Community support could work well, as long as someone who speaks the language can help set the community up in the first place.

That's great @rafaelgomes ... please check out the update in the "resources and guidelines" thread to see where we're up to supporting other languages. Hope you don't mind that it might take some time to implement a Portuguese version.

About the time that we need to implement this support, no problem. I should help with this, but I am don't know enough about ruby to do this, but I am learning this time :)

i can help with greek language. If there is a sheet in excel or the words in english i can translate it to the greek language.

i finished the translation to greek language except 11 strings that i translated but i couldn't save them and i don't know why.

@christaklis you cannot save if you don't add all new lines like in original text including for the last line. or if you end up having blank lines after yout text. you can copy the text you translated in notepad to see if there are any extra-lines,

Would it be possible to post the content of an non-english/-spanish email in a translator group where it could be translated so You can formulate an answer that also can be translated? Perhaps, it takes some days but it would be better then nothing. And we could formulate a email in all languages that are available now to respond immediately with something like "Thank You for Your interest. We received Your mail and we need some time to translate and answer it. Please be patient." What do You think?

We can't afford to spend a lot of time answering support emails so the solution needs to be very quick. So far I have just been using Google Translate and it does a 'good enough' job.

I really like the intent here, but I worry about the time-cost it would impose, as well as potential privacy issues.

I think this is a great idea @jochenwalter , but I also think there would be quite a serious concern about how to handle privacy.

Basically, I think it could be problematic for anyone other than Loomio staff to see the content of user emails, even if they're support requests.

I don't have a problem when You found another solution like google translation @richarddbartlett . Perhaps this isn't something to discuss anymore and you can close the discussion? It was just that I started with loomio some days ago and I am someone who likes discussions ;o)
