Survivors of Suicide Support Group
I wanted to share with you a new initiative that Lifeline WA is starting. It is a peer-supported 8-week support group for survivors of a suicide attempt.
The program has a maximum of ten participants and is facilitated by a counsellor and a peer support worker. The goal of this program is to give participants the chance to connect with others with similar experiences in a stigma free environment and will focus on both the emotional and practical needs of participants.
It is recommended participants engage in therapy or be under the care of a GP while attending the course. I have attached a link for more information and would love for you to pass this on to any clients you have that you think could benefit from the group. The next groups start in Rockingham and Northbridge, week beginning 5th October.
Please see the link for more information https://www.lifelinewa.org.au/Get-Help/Eclipse.
I have also included the reference http://dx.doi.org/10.1037/ser0000195(please copy and paste into your browser) to a research article evaluating the effectiveness of this program. The program is associated with significant improvements in suicidal symptoms and resilience.
With your assistance, we can all work towards an Australia that is free of suicide.
