Introduction to "Start a Group" Discussion

B boudin43 Public Seen by 7

When a visitor to the WGN Web Site clicks on the "Form a Group" button it needs to lead them to help. Under the default plan they will receive a welcoming phone call from a core WGN member at the end of which they will be either be introduced to a mentor or refereed to "night school". "Night school" will consist of 5 or 6 conversations (or videos followed by conversations) presented on Google+ on a predetermined rotational schedule. We are dealing here with the first G+ hangout.

I like that we are exploring ways to make our efforts more efficient.

I do have a concern that the overall process is quite involved. my gut says we want to get a mentor to the group as soon as we can. However if this is the way WGNTF decides to go, I will back it.

This work is largely based on the pamphlet “The Why & How of Grassroots Organizing” published by Dane County Grassroots Network of Dane County, WI Conversation is welcome.

I added comments on the document rather than here. Also, we could add an example of an effective agenda. Would we add this to this document or link to another one? Also, a major stumbling block for group formation is that initial support that a spark draws around themselves. What suggestions do we have for the loan activist to engage that support? This is why it is easier to form groups out of issues or campaigns. Our spark that clicked on the Form a Group button may have neither to start with.

Can Bob please correct the spelling of "loan" to "lone" - I was wondering why we were dealing with finance until I realized he is dyslexic.
