Funding

DU Deleted User Public Seen by 102

Hi colleagues, I am thinking of starting a funding thread where anyone can share news about funds available and experiences of succeeding and failing to get suitable funding. It is an immensely complicated field and all our needs and locations and organisational arrangements and timings are different so I think we can just share information and each can think about how it might be relevant to them. Do let me know if this is worth trying and/or if you wish to suggest a better way of doing this. If I don't hear otherwise I will start posting things as I become aware of them. Best wishes, Ian

Greggs Foundation Environmental and Local community grants.

These may be of interest to FG projects and there is plenty of time to apply. I notice they are developing a tie-up with Project Dirt (which we touched on at the June meeting).

Environmental Grant
Improving people's lives by improving their environment
We believe that looking after our neighbourhoods can have a real impact on the quality of life of the people who live there. Our Environmental Grant fund is therefore dedicated to improving the local environment - whether that means turning a piece of wasteland into a garden or organising litter picking days on the beach. We look to fund projects that improve the physical environment in a way that also benefits the wider community. We have seven local charity committees which meet regularly throughout England, Scotland and Wales to review applications and award grants. We offer grants of up to £2,000 and concentrate on helping existing not for profit organisations to deliver new projects. Organisations may only apply once per calendar year for this grant.
Please carefully read the following guidelines before starting an application:
Who do we support?

Any not for profit organisation can apply, preference will be given to small, locally based and community led organisations with a turnover not in excess of £300,000 per annum. Schools are also encouraged to apply and are given the same level of priority as small locally based organisations.

What type of project can we support?

We are interested in projects that improve the physical environment in a way that will improve people's lives. This can include purchase of equipment, sessional salary costs, purchase of trees/plants, small capital projects and learning activities. We are also interested in new approaches and innovative ideas as well as sustainable approaches to supporting your local environment.

We are working with Project Dirt (www.projectdirt.com) to establish an online network dedicated to all the winners of the Greggs Foundation Grant. Project Dirt is the UK’s most active network connecting and resourcing community projects. The main aim of the Greggs Foundation “cluster” network is to connect all the Greggs winning projects on an online platform, where they can easily share updates and stories of their project's progress and connect with similar projects.

I have produced a note on 10 potential small grant givers for Forest Gardens and potential Forest Gardens. These ones are mostly relatively quick and easy and for actual project work on the ground rather than development work, organisational costs etc.

The John Ellerman Foundation https://ellerman.org.uk/ may be worth a look at for funding as it supports national "niche" charities promoting specific

The People's Postcode Local Trust is open for a short window until August 15th for Stage One applications for community spaces including gardens. I note that they have already funded at least one Forest Garden. They can give grants of £2k to most organisations and £20K to registered charities. Whilst only a few organisations may be ready to apply in this short window it is probably worth most FGs looking at it in preparation for future rounds. Hope this helps. Ian
