This is a proposal, where you can make a decision together. You can start a proposal once a discussion is underway.
Everyone is asked to state a position by the deadline. You can extend the deadline if you need to, or close a proposal early.
You can change your position while the proposal is open. You might reconsider your view as you listen to others.
Sometimes groups work through a series of proposals to build solutions together. You can raise sequential proposals in this thread.

Not that I've seen. That was one reason I kinda wanted to go with a message board, but folks really liked the proposal system on Loomio and are wary of setting up/maintaining multiple simultaneous discussion tools, which I get. Still, if we are noticing a need that's not being met, it's something to think about. I do think a wiki or google drive would be a good supplement to Loomio as a place to store info for easy reference so you don't have to go dogging through threads for stuff. I set up a wiki a while back at http://rcvoregon.wikispaces.com/home but haven't been maintaining it since it seemed like people weren't particularly interested in it as a tool. If you would be interested in joining and messing around with it feel free! I think I'll have to approve you to join so poke me if I haven't approved you within a couple hours of your request.

This is a great proposal and we have nothing to lose by supporting it. But then again, we have nothing to gain...

I might take you up on that. Wikis are hard to get people to understand how to maintain. But a discussion board fits my view better - I think subgroups would probably work. So a subgroup for endless discussions on exact details of voting methods alternative wouldn't interfere with a subgroup on doing a statewide initiative.

According to the info in the sidebar, there's also a way to create sequential proposals in a single thread. I don't immediately see a way to do that but it sounds interesting.

Note: it's easy to confuse a non-reply post and a reply post, but when you hit "reply" on a thread, it marks the comment as a reply to the other poster.

How do you quote text from a previous comment that you want to reply to? I keep seeing quoted text formatted with a vertical line to the left looking all pretty!

So using loomio - is there any concept of folders? Or would the closest to that be sub groups? So for example if we wanted to focus on a Multnomah County election change we would create a Multnomah County subgroup?

+1 to using subgroups. But there's super value in having a wiki to just store summaries and notes and things that are like stable lists and not back-and-forth conversations. That serves a wholly different and complementary purpose. This group desperately needs something like a wiki.

For some reason, they only have a brief selection mentioned at https://www.loomio.org/markdown and not quoting. Start a paragraph with the > symbol to make a quote. Other markdown stuff should work too.
