Pop-up museum-style exhibition about (reinventing) democracy (need a better name: Democratic Empowerment exhibition, ...)

  • Why? I was thinking about organizing an evening to explain about democracy/basic income /... but it can be boring and exhausting for people to hear someone for quite some time, so people might not show up so easily as with an exhibition.
  • What? As in any museum, you start with a timeline, but focused on ups/downs of democracy instead of dinosaurs e.g. We could do the same a map with the interesting democratic points of the world.
Then we could make it more thematic: sortition, referenda, basic income, neoliberalism, economic inequality, particracy, ... with for everyone a poster and a small video introducing the thematic. (video can be an old pc we "refurbish" with just the video playing) There could also be a small workshop about how a meeting through sortition like the G1000 would work. We could also make a wall with all the different posters. (or put them in between the rest) We could also invite Volt, Democratie.nu,... to have a stand + it is a great opportunity to gather signatures.

I would like to know if other people would like to go for this too. (or how would you see this?)

I wouldn't know where to start or how to help, but I  the idea! Tell me what to do!

Sounds like a great idea to get something done about our core values and get known. Unfortunately for me since we got 2 people elected here with our list we got a huge amount of work... I doubt I can get extra energy for PPBE for a while :slightly_frowning_face:

Leuk concept, maar te veel werk in functie van de return die we daar mogen van verwachten mbt komende verkiezingen. Zoiets lijkt me beter om uit te werken voor na de verkiezingen.

I think the huge challenge is to create appropriate content and where we don't see the time to do it. Setting up stands, computers, ... might be doable if we are a bit inventive. I wonder whether it would be possible to do a crowdfunding which only goes through if we get e.g. the 5000 € mark. This way, we could ask students to create the content in the lesson free week in February if we manage to get to that amount. Crazy or worth the effort to try?

If that is a technical question, then yes, https://help.kickstarter.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005047893-Why-is-funding-all-or-nothing-

I agree. A couple of volunteers should do the trick. I have a PC and laptop I could spare for a while, so that's at least that already.

Yes, and that is where I fear I'll be worthless :slight_frown:

Do we have students we can ask already? What should be done for that? (Again I fear I'm useless here)

Crazy or worth the effort to try?

Both of course :hugging:

Is there a specific reason why you said €5000 mark? Is this something which is already estamated, or just a random number?

A side-idea that comes to mind here btw is that if we have content for this (posters, video, text...) we could make it into an 'online museum' as well (but that's just me sidetracking here).

BTW I know one the guys who was in team that set up the pop-up musée du capitalisme. Probably a good start point to meet them so they can share their experience. They may even like to join the initiative...

I like this idea! But I won't be able to invest time or effort in it myself :/
