Resonate 2018 AGM, FairShares and Loomio

R Rory (FSA) Public Seen by 82

Dear Community - in case you missed this on Facebook ...

"The www.resonate.is 2018 AGM is due on Thursday 23rd August and it is being conducted under FairShares Co-operative rules for the first time. I’m a member and have voted via Loomio on several resolutions that will be passed (or not) on Thursday. This includes wording for qualifying contributions, standing orders, financial reports, board elections etc. Credit to Sam Tolands for coordinating the process.

Resonate have created their own Loomio.org instance that supports multi-stakeholder voting. Here’s a section of an email I received from a vote in progress.

Breakdown

Music Maker
100.0% agree — 4
0.0% disagree — 0
45.0% share of the vote.
30.77% have stated their position (4/13)

Fan
100.0% agree — 3
0.0% disagree — 0
35.0% share of the vote.
27.27% have stated their position (3/11)

Collaborators
0% agree — 0
0% disagree — 0
20.0% share of the vote.
NaN% have stated their position (0/0)

During a multi-stakeholder resolution, each member votes as a music-maker (Labour 1), fan (User) or Collaborator (Labour 2, but mainly Founders) - depending on the category in which they first joined. Each area of Governance is a Loomio thread, and each thread supports one or more resolutions.

It seems that Loomio and FairShares are now natural bed-fellows - Sam Tolands has adapted Loomio to be a good online platform for a FairShares AGM. It would be good to know how easy this will be to share.

The online voting is supported by a face-to-face and Zoom meeting in Berlin on Thursday.

What do you think of this as a precedent for future governance of the FairShares movement.

Hmm. I'm a resonate member but didn't get any notification (unless it went to junk mail of course)...

@samtoland - Any idea why Gordon might not get notification?

Aside from the junk folder possibility....

There are significant number of individuals who for various reasons haven't fully completed the full membership process (mainly due to incomplete or inaccurate data being submitted at sign-up). As you know Rory, membership in Resonate involves issuing a share to a legal person and we have a number of sign-ups who have signed up under pseudonyms/stage names, for example, which means we have yet to issue this share.

We are right in the middle of revamping our whole membership back-end, and until this is completed the team have been reluctant to do a 'update your details and complete your membership' drive.

@gordoncasey email me on [email protected] and I'll see if I can sort your case out.

Thank Sam. Appreciate the game changes when you have to verify legal/natural persons

Yes - it has been a tricky balancing act. But in the end, as Secretary I've had to ensure that all the i's are dotted and t's crossed before someone can vote. But we hope to have the sign-up process fully ironed out by the end of the year - as it is unnecessarily frustrating to people who otherwise think they've completed their membership.

Sam,

Glad to see the progress you're making!

We will soon be at that point in Evolutesix ... may we adopt what you've been developing?

You can also try out our online programme online learning system ( http://bit.ly/E6_AWProgramme ) - free this month

Cheers

I am sure we will share experiences after this AGM, and engage in a discussion perhaps about how the FairShares community of co-ops could engage with Loomio to start adapting (or having an adapted version) of the platform that is usable for FairShare co-op governance.

Hi @samtoland - I'll send you a note but I'm more interested in being a supportive and participatory member (and highlighting potentially unknown bugs/issues) than I am of adding to your workload so please don't feel you need to fix me ahead of anybody else. Unfortunately we're in the same position as you (maybe a year or so behind) in terms of having members (and wannabe members, and almost members) and not having the tools and time to manage everyone as well as we would like. It feels kind of gross to me sometimes but we keep trying... eating the elephant etc.
