Happy New Year + Recording of CAN session Dec 21st

Hi all,

Happy New Year. Hope you've had a good transition into 2021. And that, despite the ever overwhelming news stream, you are feeling hopeful about the year ahead.

Just before Christmas we had yet another resourceful CAN (Citizens Action Network / Community Agency Network) Zoom session, and better late than never I'm sharing the recording of this session.

It starts with a brilliant presentation from Roberto on the vision and strategy behind the CANs he is developing in Mexico. Then, initiated by a short presentation from David (starting 23 mins in), we move into a discussion on what a CAN handbook/manual could look (sound, feel etc.) like and who/what is it for.

If you're interested in being a part of the CAN development going forward this is a must-watch. Here's the link to watch/download the recording:

Our next co-creators call is on Monday the 11th, same time and same link as usual. More on the agenda later this week.

Look forward to seeing you on Zoom soon!

Thanks Maria - and Happy New Year to you. Great to reconnect. The slides that I used are here https://bit.ly/2KNnbhX I was trying to develop a high-level overview of how a guide/handbook might be part of a bigger "operating system". Maybe a bit abstruse :-).
Since then I've done a bit more "thinking out loud" which I've mentioned in the CAN Update thread, in discussion with Phil. I'll update on that later this week, after checking in with Maria on the agenda for the next call. I think there's scope to develop a kit/game that could be used interactively online as a complement to the guide/handbook.

Hi @Maria and @David Wilcox Happy New Year! Thanks for this. Re the email / invite to Monday's zoom, assuming we're continuing discussion on CAN development, suggest David start with your ideas on dev process / framework. Then, re the handbook, could we include in the email, the link

https://www.appropedia.org/Citizens_Action_Network_handbook

and something like If you have time take a look at where we've got to so far, and come ready to share your thoughts and questions with us?

Thanks Phil. Here, as mentioned earlier, is some "thinking out loud" on development of a kit/game to complement the handbook. https://bit.ly/3pYBC2b

I have also indicated how we might map resources and collaborators, and develop learning spaces. On Monday my colleague Drew Mackie and I could explain more about the kit/game - see the above link for initial ideas - or pick up on other topics.

Overall the programme I've outlined is far more than we could accomplish voluntarily. Maybe it is too ambitious, so I think we'll need a steer from A/UK on what to prioritise, when/whether to go for funding, and how to organise ourselves.

I'm also developing ideas in London on the next phase of Networked City https://networkedcity.london/ and how this might related to the London Recovery Programme which has missions for building strong communities, mental health and wellbeing, and a Green New Deal. I think that the CAN model could be very relevant.

The programme says "Mission - Building Strong Communities – By 2025, all Londoners will have access to a community hub ensuring they can volunteer, get support and build strong community networks. " https://bit.ly/3hW8uGc That could translate into a community hub plus a CAN.

You may be interested in Civic Futures a programme we run together with a partnership and the Mayor's office @David Wilcox which is now entering its second year. A bit different - but might be useful if you know anyone or are interested? https://www.koreo.co/civicfutures/
