Introduce yourself to TEZA

SJ Sophie Jerram Public Seen by 30

Hi everyone. The Loomio designers have seen the TEZA brief and are going to join us as part of the TEZA project, which is terrific for our sense of community. Immediately they suggested we set up the TEZA Loomio group! So I'm setting up the group even tho' we haven't yet got a focus for discussion on it yet. For those who haven't used Loomio before, this can be a good learning opp.

What is to say is that on March 1st, Mark and I delivered another CNZ application on Friday for a Christchurch event, namely looking at a late October encampment with 7 art project and several supporting events and people. More to come.

Now, on the eve of our departure to Christchurch for an initial meeting with at the Physics Room interested parties, we're getting this group going to discuss how we're going to make this happen. @richarddbartlett maybe you can introduce yourself as another admin on this.

Hi I'm Rich, I'm wearing 3 hats to TEZA:

As you can tell I am interested in action. Judging by the fact that I introduce myself with URLs it appears I'm also interested in digital identity.

I'm exploring how groups of people collaborate around a shared purpose; and how groups of groups collaborate.

I'm here as an artist (questions) and engineer (answers).

How can I help?

Public Service Announcement as Loomio rep:

  • Feel free to invite anyone to this group to join in the discussions: go here and click 'Add new member'
  • Feel free to set up a sub-group if you want to host discussions on a specific project that might not be relevant to the whole TEZA group
  • I made this group publicly viewable because I find it makes it easier to get people involved in conversations if they can view without signing in. If there's any sensitive information to be discussed, we can set up a private subgroup.
  • If all the Loomio emails are starting to get on your nerve, click here to switch those suckers off :)
  • If you want to talk about Loomio, join the Loomio Community
  • Any questions, fire away!

Thanks @richarddbartlett. wow I think you've ignited a new chapter for the TEZA which will be about opening and weaving in lots of people so this thing will thrive. So just for the record, I'm Sophie Jerram, instigator and with @markamery co-curator/producer of Letting Space and we've been working on this TEZA since I came back from Istanbul in September 2011... Julian Priest and I had been experiencing the very distracted sensation of flying in and out of an amazing city to visit an international art event and yet hardly touching any local experiences... So the idea of New Zealand/Aotearoa having an economic zone with its own rules, principles of behaviour and trade was about resisting the previous art biennial experience (which parallel the privileges of the Special economic zones used by colonial powers) we'd encountered and establishing a zone that genuinely engaged with local need. This has grown, developed and become a more solid idea of trialling the best collaborative community projects around exchange and value. More soon.

@mattwilson it was terrific to have you there last night and we know your vision is totally aligned.. We met Jasper who had been working on a community Wifi project (at Dark Room) last night as well. He mentioned Unleash and Snap as two ISPs who could assist - is one of these yours?

The secret to deploying a free internet services in public area around CHCH is to work with locally with CCC and Snap

Together they already a offer a free internet service around CHCH.

Any business that has a fibre connection with Snap will have spare ports on their fibre converter, one of the spare ports can be enabled to allow access to the CCC internet. This can be plugged into WiFi equipment and everyone is happy.

This will save the CCC money by not having to pay, install and maintain WiFi hardware, public get access to internet in places that would normally take months or years to wait for fibre to be installed in the ground.

Data links around the city blocks can easily distribute the internet service temp until permanent solutions are worked out.

I am not one for writing proposals, but more formal communication needs to be pushed at the CCC to allow access to this connection.

There is a lot of talk about free internet in CHCH, I hope this maybe the channel that will get everyone together rather than attacking at as smaller individual social groups.

Look forward to hearing from everyone, and your thoughts as to how we can make this happen.

The vision is there!
The ability is there!
The skills are there!
The hardware the there!

ALL THAT IS MISSING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN...
