3/6/18: #RETech debriefing 1Q2018 (was post #ICNY)

BW Bill Wendel Public Seen by 392

As in the past, real estate consumer advocates in Boston have begun putting together a #RETech debriefing after #ICNY. This year's gathering is extending what we've done in the past in a number of ways:

  1. Several people are helping plan that gathering and you're invited to do the same;

  2. We''ll continue to focus on residential brokerage & mortgages, but we'll debrief innovations & trends from multiple conferences and preview others;

  3. Because of the pace of innovation, we'll use the debriefing to seed weekly gatherings, field trips, etc. leading up to the Realtor's convention in Boston, Nov. 2-5, 2018; and

  4. Instead of focusing on any single unconference or housing hack, we'll use the debriefing to continue seeding ongoing collaboration and learning groups via http://RE2020.Loomio.org.

CAST YOUR VOTE: To avoid potential after-effects of the Superbowl next Sunday, a proposal was made last night to move the #RE2020 debriefing to Monday, February 12th from 6-9pm tentatively at @ImpactHubBOS, 50 Milk St, Boston. Does that time work for you?

For those who did NOT participate in the 1st RE2020 Debriefing post #ICNY, here's a list of 15 trends distilled from mini-deconstruction. See "Tech Tsunami" comment by Pete Flint and working list on this Twitter thread:

IMPORTANT SCHEDULE CHANGE

@tomwemett @johnpuma @nitesh Community member night at @ImpactHubBos has been moved to Tuesday, so we need to move our #RETech Debriefing to 2/13, 6-9pm. Does that work for you?

We'll meet in the Windrose conference room on the 5th Floor at 50 Milk St. in Boston's Financial District. The glass-enclosed room accommodates 16 guests, has great wifi, a whiteboard wall, and a large monitor for presentations.

RESERVATIONS will be required so should we limit attendance by making the event "invitation only," or invite anyone to sign-up via MeetUp, curate a group of 16 selected people, and invite others to join us virtually?

If you can't make Monday in person, would you prefer to call-in or participate via a web conferencing option that allow us to screenshare?

@tomwemett Thanks for casting your vote. How many people would need to join us 2/13 for you to drive in from Western Mass? On 2/27, are you unable to attend in person, or can't participate virtually either?

FLASH POLL: Move #RETech / #ICNY Debriefing to Tu 2/13 or Tu 2/27? Closed Sat 10 Feb 2018 9:03PM

One of the key people in our growing #RE2020 group can't come on Tuesday, 2/13 and suggests a delay two more weeks until 2/27, same time, same place: 6-9pm, ImpactHubBOS, 50 Milk St, Boston (Financial District near State Street & Downtown Crossing T Stations).

What's your preference?

Case for delaying til 2/27: More time to invite #ICNY guests to join us virtually and Nitesh joins us.

Case for keeping on 2/13: Keep #RE2020 momentum and talk about #ICNY before importance fades.

Regardless of which we chose for a formal RETech debriefing, my hope is to continue informal RE2020 working meetings weekly, alternating between ImpactHubBOS, other events, field trips, etc. Ideas welcome!

If there will be 4 or 5 of us in person, I would drive there. We are leaving for Hartford, CT on the 27th to fly out to Costa Rica early the next day. I also may have a closing that day so there would be too much going on for me to even participate by phone. Tom W.

By popular vote and private correspondence I received from key participants, we've decided to move the #RETech debriefing to Tuesday, 6-9p on 2/27. Working on agenda and invitations for guests to join us virtually, got ideas about topics or trends we should address or who should join us?

Should we make the even invitation-only so we keep under 16 person limit for the conference room we have at ImpactHubBOS, or open up the guest list by posting on http://MeetUp.com/BosRETech

For those who missed it, @ScottKirshner from @BostonGlobe wrote a story on Sunday, 2/11 about all of the innovation going on in the #RETech, #PropTech, #BuildTech, #SmartCity space in Boston. One source said they're tracking 70+ #REStartUps in the region.

To our surprise and delight, Scott used the hashtag #BosRETech, and others are beginning to do the same:

https://twitter.com/Patronicity/status/963154328407035904

Should we try to identify them and invite them to this #RETech debriefing or focus on a future event, perhaps a real estate unconference or #HackHousing event. One is already in the pipeline, and they'll be on our guest list for 2/27.

FLASH POLL: Use Scheduling conflict to create synergy, build awareness & collaboration for #RE2020? Closed Fri 23 Feb 2018 8:02PM

Learned that the Venture Cafe Foundation & Microsoft Innovation & Policy Center New England are cohosting a #CivicTechBOS conversation on "Housing in Boston" at District Hall on 2/27, the same night #BosRETech has proposed to host our #RETech debriefing at CIC's sister location, @ImpactHubBOS.

Instead of thinking of this as a scheduling conflict can we use it as an opportunity to create more awareness & synergy between #RETech innovators & the local housing community?

Which of these options would you prefer, note you can vote more than once and suggest alternatives:
