Title: Organizing ourselves to get things done! - An introduction to working sociocratically.

Organizations are looking for more inclusive, collaborative
ways to make decisions, organize and structure their work, and to
become self-managing self-leading entities. Citizen, advocacy and grassroots groups need increasing adaptability, effectiveness, and ability to work "smarter not harder"
with limited resources. These groups can be autonomous, independent, and egalitarian, networks perhaps aligned with XR in some ways, but not "part of" XR in terms of formal organization and governance.

The Sociocratic Circle-organization Method (SCM) offers clear and
elegant approaches to accomplishing these goals. Based on simple yet powerful values and principles, the SCM provides well-designed processes for collaborative decision making, and innovative structural design that increases effectiveness at all levels.

* Brief introductions
* Setting a foundation - concepts, values, and principles
* Making decisions together - processes, examples, Q&A
* Organizing work together - structure, examples, Q&A
* Open Q&A time
* Next steps, resources

Organizations are looking for more inclusive, collaborative ways to make decisions, organize and structure their work, and to become self-managing self-leading entities.

Citizen, advocacy and grassroots groups need increasing adaptability, effectiveness, and ability to work "smarter not harder" with limited resources. Sociocracy and democracy training event tonight at 19:00 from FDH

Josie Holt Wed 5 Feb 2020 8:52AM

was this recorded by any chance? I had hoped to attend but children can be utterly counter revolutionary sometimes!

It was recorded and also it was said that the slides would be available -- I'm interested in both as well. Symbiosis is also sponsoring a talk on horizontal decision making next week -- though time isn't good for UK https://www.facebook.com/events/2770962629659472/

Good to hear - I got the date wrong and thought it was tonight!

Resources to come soon

Thanks so much -- I'm a little concerned because that link includes the chat with a bunch of email addresses in it. If I share the zoom, I share the chat. Is there a way to excise the chat?

Well spotted, I've deleted the link from the post, I simply agree with your concern. I will repost later. Thanks for letting me know.

John has kindly provided resources. For the attachments, all are Creative Commons CC-BY-SA licensed, except for the SCM process summary sheet, which grants permission to copy for
personal use keeping copyright statement intact.

Attached are:

* Condensed version of the intro presentation slides in PDF format.
* SCM process summary sheet, with flowcharts of basic processes
(excerpts used in slides).
* A more detailed election process outline.
* A short how-to guide for creating agenda items and other aspects of
meetings.
* A meeting agenda template, with some explanations of the standard
elements of a meeting.
* "Sara's Story" - a narrative example of how someone might apply SCM
values, principles and processes "on the fly" to help a group work
through an issue.

Sociocracy for All - an advocacy/education/outreach nonprofit co-founded

If you do online searches on ‘sociocracy’ you’ll find more, some of it
congruent, some of it divergent. There are all kinds of experiments and
derivations happening. Some give credit to the origins and lineage of
the SCM and some do not.

All participants please consider me a resource for further training &
support, and thanks again for your good work in the world!

thanks & regards,
John
