Loomio

How We Use Loomio (Meta-discussion/ mediation/ moderation space)

DS Danyl Strype Public Seen by 217

This is a space for sharing our learning about what works for us on Loomio, and what seem to bog us down, or disengage activists (ie active members). Rather than get into meta-discussion on other threads - talking about the discussion rather than the topic - those meta-discussions can take place here.

Things like pointing out fallacies, or raising concerns about unfriendly or disrespectful argumentation, can all be talked through here. Nicely :-)

Can't censor freedom of speech, no matter how inconvenient.

My comments were made to prevent the pirate party from going into disrepute.

I cannot reach a decision in this particular discussion. Generically it is freedom of expression verses the freedom not to be attacked. This needs to be handled in the code of conduct discussion.

This proposal adds no value to the original objective of this discussion. Attacking people for their attacks on other people is not the right direction. We should focus on constructive solutions for the problem we are trying to solve.

In defining and enforcing the standard we communicate here we actually define not only how we communicate, but also who is willing to communicate here. If we allow abusive and harassing comments, we exclude most but angry white men. Not acceptable!

If @andrewmcpherson cannot understand why referring to people as "petty domestic terrorists and even moronic xenophobic personality cult nationalists" is out of line, I'm not sure anyone can explain it to him. Quite frankly these comments by Andrew McP are a form of bullying, and far, far from creating a welcoming and respectful space for discussion. I doubt I'm the only one who feels less free to participate here when replies use this kind of patronising, hectoring language, guilt-by-association, and appeals to authority ("senior member of the counter-terrorism unit").

Just to be clear @andrewmcpherson, this discussion is private, and only visible to party members who are signed into Loomio. Our goal here is to discuss moderation issues, and mediate disagreements about how we use Loomio, with the ultimate goal of working together more effectively.

It's a pity that loomio doesn't have a karma system like Reddit, since then the problem would sort itself out organically. That being said, this is a forum for sharing ideas, and as long as they are not hate speech or demonstrable lies, we'd be hypocrites to preach debate then censor people. If you're worried about image, we are what we are.

@strypey the ban1080 party has members who are petty domestic terrorists, which has been confirmed by a source who monitors terrorist suspects as part of the counter terrorism unit. I am not going to entertain a philosophical debate which has already been proven adequately by my old friend in the police CTU.

@strypey it is well known that Richard Prosser is the least intelligent MP in New Zealand First, which is a party of a personality cult around a xenophobia platform of race baiting immigrant hatred, and so it is entirely fair to state that Richard Prosser MP is literally a moronic xenophobe in a personality cult party.

As a dual nationality person who is multilingual, I reserve the right to be offended by xenophobic idiots who discriminate against people merely for being immigrants.
And that is why I dislike New Zealand First as a party.
