Let's start with a alternative currency... 1 Pirate = 1 Euro?

Are you serious?

Lets werkt reeds jaren met een complementaire digitale munt, alleen kan je die niet gebruiken om te consumeren.

Let's focus on what we are supposed to do as a party, don't you think?

both serious and joking.

It could be a tool with real world value as well as a eye-catcher for upcoming elections.

Yes as a party.... we create a Pirate Currency as a political act. To promote the Pirate concepts.

A political act? As easy as that? Like printing flyers?

There are plenty of alternative currencies out there, and people who have more knowledge about this interesting idea. I'm thinking about https://timebank.cc/, http://en.duniter.org/, etc. And I could also talk about the local currencies such as the Talent in Louvain-la-Neuve (pirates from Crew BW helped to launch this one), Le Valeureux in Liège, etc.

I'm not sure for what do you want to create such a money, but I would either join an existing group or contact them and see what you can do. But creating a currency from scratch is not faesible in my opinion...

Yes some have Euro's and dollars and many more....
We, Pirates have some goodwill .... but enough?
Do we have a budget? a strategy? enough voters to win next election?

A currency must be garanteed. How will you do that? How would you manage fake pirates?

Rome was not builded in one day ;-)

The how en when, seems for me more as questions for a second stage.... ?

Do we Pirates just want to go for it? Is it useful ? etc..

But regarding your question "A currency must be guaranteed. . How will you do that? ...
Bitcoin is a possible example?

In this thread about Duniter, which summarize it-self as «A project to implement Basic Income through Libre Currencies. To a libre economy.» (src : https://en.duniter.org/) you asked the question «It is a waist of time ?».

I've the feeling that here come an answer from me : It's relative

As in the Changemakers - Will Ruddick's Community Currencies Youtube video you suggested. The creation of a Complementary Currency is probably useful.

I write probably useful because it depends on the local situation and the local economic conditions. About that, I've the feeling that here in Belgium, compared to the situation in Kenya, sadly we are not poor enough. But this is my personal point of view.

On the Grassroots Economics website, There is an interesting page How To - Developing a Community Currency which maybe useful to those of us who would like to give some time on a Pirate Currency.

  1. Understand the benefits and challenges
  2. Organize an interim committee
  3. Develop a constitution
  4. Register the Trade or Business Network
  5. Quantify production levels of the community and members
  6. Design the community currency
  7. Grow membership

The last point (7. Grow membership) retains my attention because on their website it is written «Build to a critical mass of at least 100 initial members in the area».

About that ... maybe we should consider all the active pirates as those 100 initial members.

The point (6. Design the community currency) :

Computer based : maybe fulfilled by the existence of the tools from the Duniter community. But it's a cryptocurrency meaning that you need to have a computer to manage your wallet, obtain your monthly dividend, and exchange with the members of the pirate currency community. (yes it is possible to Start a new testing currency).

Paper based : no idea but it's used around he world and of course there are local currencies here in Belgium.

If you need some info about some finance, you can send a mail to finance @ pirateparty . be.

About budget, strategy and the will to gain the elections, I can just remind that those vzw folks still have the goal to provide services to the pirates.

Some updates about internal democracy, which for me is probably the most important to help us in some kind of democratic - not majority based (if possible)- but consensus seeking oriented (if possible) decision processing.

Some of us (one maybe) also work on the idea of improving the «vitrine» (http://pirateparty.be/) by working on http://piratelab.be/ (which was used before becoming our current «vitrine».

And of course ... the improvements made on our wiki to help us reach our desires of transparency, working together and sharing of information. a reminder about this help page in english for the moment because we can not do everything in less then the time necessary to do it.

On the wiki you can find information as : Events, PirateLab, Active crews and the projecs page which is of course something to improve.

And as a reminder ... a wiki is a platform made to work together on the content.

You can also do whatever you want 'coz you are a pirate

Please consider this as a small contribution to help in the reading about the things done by and for «the pirates» and this list is not exhaustive.
