I think that the NFGS should be engaging with planners, architects and urban
designers. An easy entry point is to join in the comments
following articles/blogs on specialist web sites. NFGS members
might be able to register/comment or draw opportunities to the attention to those who could. This would be profile raising that could lead to requests to speak at their meetings, conferences or seminars?

Thanks Dan. Yes, I agree with this. I wonder what would be the right entry point? May I suggest this could be by supporting the design and development of healthy, happy cities focusing on improving well-being? To this end I would like to draw people’s attention to;
• The happy city index - http://www.thrivingplacesindex.org/. This echoes somewhat the concept of happy planet - http://happyplanetindex.org/. I think we should be working with those towns and cities who want to get serious about this. This builds upon the work already underway at Ebbsfleet
• I was on a call this morning to someone who is in Task Force for the Group of Wellbeing Economy Governments. The idea of well-being economises is starting to build traction and is an alternative to the limitation of GDP.
• Wales has the well-being for future generations act. https://futuregenerations.wales/about-us/future-generations-act/ I think we should be working with planners in Wales (and Scotland) as they are way ahead of the game.

Not a directly related post but please could people take a look at this campaign about funding for parks and sign if you feel you agree. It’s close to NFGS mission. Thank you

Hiya, I went to the Green Infrastructure Partnership Meeting of the TCPA yesterday (which by the way NFGS should apply to be part of once we are legally formed) .... and met someone who told me about the Tree and Design Action Group http://www.tdag.org.uk/about-tdag.html .... apparently they have meetings in Victoria in London - Dan would you be up for coming with me to one? Maybe we can try and present something....

I also spoke to the TDAG at Ecobuild and found that they do have planning expertise (ie responding to the draft NPPF). This might be an additional reason to meet as I could learn from them. I often have stuff published in the TCPA Journal and would be keen to co-author an article with a member (Hannah?) who could describe and explain the 'forest garden' to which I can say something about barriers and implementation?

Hiya, could be interesting! for writing stuff I will have more time in May? In terms of TDAG will write to them now and see what the possibility is.

The other thing is - does the NFGS want to be a member of TDAG?

Hi Hannah thanks for taking time to do this. Have TDAG responded? And what case by the way would you make for us being members?

We Feed the World – Events & Farmers Market Call for submissions

Bringing together an international team of world-renowned photographers, NGOs, the food and farming movement and ethical businesses, We Feed the World is a unique and far-reaching communications initiative designed to demonstrate the many benefits of agro-ecological farming methods to a global audience.

Over the last two years, 40 award-winning photographers including Rankin, Martin Parr, Pieter Hugo and Gabriela Iturbide have given their time to document the lives of over 50 farming communities across 6 continents. This has been a phenomenal collaborative effort to capture a snapshot of agro-ecological farming in action and challenge the myth that we need an industrial food system to feed the world. By putting the spotlight on these men, women and families, their diverse backgrounds and landscapes, and their inspiring stories, we replace the image of the poor, struggling farmer with a true picture of the small, family farmers who feed over 70% of the world.

Through these extraordinary images we aim to take the discussion of the future of our food systems out to the general public, reaching beyond the converted and engaging the mainstream media. Through evocative images and inspiring stories we aim to engage and mobilising audiences to join the movement calling for a fairer and more sustainable system. But we need your help…

Events Programme

This is a call for submissions for the London launch exhibition of We Feed the World, held at the prestigious Bargehouse Gallery on London’s Southbank from the 11th to 21st October 2018, coinciding with World Food Day on the 16th and Harvest in the Global North.

We have 5 floors and 13 rooms to animate every day with talks and activities that engage the public with the current struggles that farmers face, the great success stories of regenerative farming around the world, the complex politics and the simple solutions. Through an engaging menu of workshops, events, talks, performances, storytelling, films, discussions and interactive activities running alongside the exhibition, this will be a 10 day celebration of agroecology.

The programme will be curated and hosted in collaboration with the food and farming movement, both in the UK and globally. So whether be it a seed saving or a fermentation workshop, a presentation about your farm or project, a film screening and discussion panel, or a performance to steal the hearts and minds of the audience, we want to hear about it. All ideas are welcome, and audiences of diverse backgrounds and ages will be catered for.

The venue costs are covered and your event will be promoted as part of the We Feed the World exhibition and programme. Your specific event needs and logistics can be discussed in detail with the Gaia team, and if refreshments are required these could be covered by a small ticket charge to attendees.

There is no strict deadline for submissions but the sooner the better. Please send a summary of your idea (maximum 200 words), along with your organisations name or your suitability to host the activity to Francesca Price at [email protected] … alternatively, just drop us a line to discuss ideas.

Farmers Market

Whilst a packed events programme brings the photographic images to life upstairs, in the ground floor and courtyard a farmers market will be offering visitors the chance to meet face to face with farmers and buy their produce directly. If you would like to be considered for a pitch at the We Feed the World Farmers Market please do get in touch.

We look forward to working together!
