Using ‘Block’ vs ‘Disagree’ for a proposal

G Grace Public Seen by 363

What does ‘Block vs ‘Disagree’ means when deciding on a proposal? IMO, ‘Block’ should be used when something compelling and directly affecting your area of contribution is considered high risk and therefore needs to be known by everyone in the voting process. This means that you should be able to clearly articulate the impact. Additionally, Blocking something denotes you have certain authority that others may not have when making that decision. Agree or disagree is what we are trying to determine and see how consensus could be ultimately reached. For those who use the ‘Block’ to voice your opinion, makes it seem that you are not open to a healthy dialogue that reaches a sound decision.

As discussed in the governance meeting, Loomio is currently not used as a tool to make any decision 'final'. Therefore it seems logical that people can vote in however way they want. Voting 'block' does not mean (see the people's comments') that they think they have more authority but rather that they think this proposal (the one you are referring to) is unclear. Loomio can help us to start or continue proposals which are raised in the governance meeting and other circle meetings, where healthy discussions are held every time - very welcome to join & contribute!
