Loomio

Idea: Allow users to include their contact info in their profiles

We can get into specifics in a proposal, but the idea is that, right now, it's hard to send someone a message or "friend" them through Loomio; there's no private messaging (can't chat, nor ask for contact info), and we can't find each other on other sites because we don't know each other's usernames!

This would arguably also make it unnecessary for private messaging to be implemented on Loomio; users can contact each other some other way... but only if they can trade contact info.

It's important for users to be able to control the privacy permissions/visibility of their data, but again, we can save those specifics for a particular proposal.

i think it has many privacy risks that proposal.

It's not that you share your info with friends but with whole community/group which maybe you don't know anyone.

I think it's much safer person-to-person messaging system through loomio without contact informations are available as telephone or email.

@christaklis The privacy risks are only proportional to what people put in their profile, which could be as minimalist as Twitter's.

I'd like to be able to link people to my personal homepage, Twitter feed, and GitHub page. It wouldn't have to be a completely public profile, either.

What do you think of the profile only being visible to other Loomio users, or some other privacy-enhancing restriction?

@christaklis If you don't want people knowing your phone number, don't put it in your profile :-).

@christaklis If you'd prefer private messaging between users, see this discussion on exactly that: https://www.loomio.org/d/Vln2MwPC

Allow users to include in their profiles (at least) their email address, Twitter username, and a custom URL (website, blog, etc) Closed Fri 5 Dec 2014 5:04PM

The profile would only be visible to other Loomio users, and would absolutely NOT be public by default! And NONE of this info would be required.

If democracy is going to flourish, we need the ability to connect with each other.

We need the ability to (optionally) connect with each other and make friends outside of Loomio, and this seems like the best, simplest, and most universally-useful way to achieve this.

A simple, optional, arbitrary text field could serve this purpose -- people could put contact info in there if they wanted, and not if they didn't.

If it's done, I would prefer a simple single data entry field, where someone could put multiple links if they personally desired.
