Question: Can we use some of this content for Daily Alternative posts

TAU The Alternative UK Public Seen by 28

As we would have predicted, some brilliant very early contributions to this Action Forum. Can we have a show of hands as to whether it’s ok for me (Pat Kane, editor of The Daily Alternative) to edit some of this material for a weekly blog post? I’m going to use the voting function below for the first time, and put a time limit on Saturday afternoon for the end of the vote.

All very iterative here, let’s see if it works. Obviously comments also welcome.

Can we use Action Forum material as a public blog for the Daily Alternative? Closed Sat 7 Mar 2020 5:03PM

Outcome

Hi everyone, thanks for participating in this first poll proposal. Didn't know there was a comment function to each voting option, which allowed for some rich/wise responses.

A few outcomes:

  • Most people who voted are happy for their material to be used in the Daily Alternative, but want a clarification about both our and Loomio's "fair use" terms - Creative Commons, etc. I will seek that in the next week, and report on it to you all.

  • What we did last week in the Alternative Weekly newsletter was to post links to significant threads that had already come up in the first few days of the A/UK Action Forum. People linking through from the newsletter will have to go through a sign-up sequence, which involves our approving their case for joining - balancing out growing participation, and good intent of the participants.

  • In immediate response to some people wanting to control access to material here, I'm going to tighten up the settings on each of the Topic subgroups. The subgroups you're already in, you're fine. But if you're going to join a new one, there'll now be a very brief "why are you joining?" question. Hopefully not too inhibitory.

Lots of toggling and adjusting in these early days, we beg your indulgence and patience.... thank you!

Best, Pat Kane

Meaning: do we want to keep these as private conversations, or can we use them to display the work of our project(s) to a wider world?

Although I haven't done anything yet, I would be more than happy to have anything I post here or other work I've done used for the Daily Alternative. However, of course, it will depend on what other members want to do :)

In principle yes - we're trying to show new ways of working. But maybe always check with the author that they are ready to share what they are working on?

Feel free to promote all content that helps the aims of Alternative UK I say! I'm sure that will be done very judiciously and with great integrity.

happy to sign up to shareable, in the widest sense, eg creative commons / copyleft as the default option for posts. Has anyone checked Loomio's t&c's re shareability of content?

I'd like to implement this going forward - so we are aware-- I might prefer to review edited versions of something being published that I wrote if it's not in full.
