Moneyflow? (and other Camplight apps)

JD Josef Davies-Coates Public Seen by 16

I've love to hear more details of the various apps the Camplight lot are busy building and how they might feed into/ integrate with the Open App Ecosystem?

@borisfilipov @vitaliyangelovfili @vitaliy could you please share lots more info about Moneyflow? (and Humanresoures and any other ups you're cooking up?) :)

I found a bit more info at http://176.58.101.229:7777/ on google but that appears to have gone now (cache here http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:fEobcPjcfLcJ:176.58.101.229:7777/ ).

One key question: will moneyflow be open source?

Thanks!

I'd also love more information about this as we have built an internal tool to handle our accounts which we either need to
a) invest a bunch more time into to integrate with the open app ecosystem
b) use other peoples open apps to replace

I wonder if a good next step would be to make screen casts of the functionality in my.enspiral and moneyflow so we can start to see how we've tried to solve the same problems?

I'd love to see both of those screen casts! :)

@josefdaviescoates @joshuavial

http://176.58.101.229:7777/ is our staging :) btw it is now up & running again. The content and copyright there are not complete yet.

One key question: will moneyflow be open source?

At this point of time it is not. We gave access rights to @ahdinosaur. However we would like to open source it once we have the code base and the overall app aligned to the expected standards and quality. To do so we'll have to invest time/money, so depending on the accumulated 'budget' it will happen sooner or later :)
Currently a team of 3 is doing a full rewrite on moneyflow including the user interface.

We have also a proof-of-concept implementation of 'distributed' system for covering at least Camplight's needs as organization consisting of :

  • usersnode - user's authentication
  • humanservices - contracts
  • moneyflow - payments and accounting
  • assista - virtual assistant for the above services

We're planning gradually to open source every part of the system and also started communication with http://www.obshtestvo.bg/ for possible collaboration in regards to organization tool-belts and methodologies/processes.

I wonder if a good next step would be to make screen casts of the functionality in my.enspiral and moneyflow so we can start to see how we’ve tried to solve the same problems?

Yes that would be quite cool indeed. We'll send you a quick screencast on the current MF app.

thanks for the info @borisfilipov :)

I look forward to seeing the MoneyFlow and my.enspiral screen casts :)

I think lots of people would like to support the development of these open app tools - shall we get something up on https://www.bountysource.com/ or similar?

Well I've managed to make a quick screen cast about MoneyFlow: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7-j_izzT1kTRmRkVUl5eXoweWM/edit?usp=sharing

As @borisfilipov wrote - we have a lot to do in order to open source it. Especially in the automation phase - integration with banks so that transactions don't have to be typed manually.

@josefdaviescoates This BountySource sounds interesting - have you used it before? What are the chances of collecting a more significant amount of money suitable for 1 developer, not just some $10-15 bounty :? What about kickstarter/indiegogo?

"I think lots of people would like to support the development of these open app tools" - I don't think we have a solid product-market fit, so this quoted statement is just a hypothesis. I haven't made any research what type of software flat organizations are using. I'm eager to see my.enspiral and does it overlaps with Moneyflow. Probably this will give us more insights about how to plan ahead collaboratively our strategy :)

@vitaliyangelovfili

“I think lots of people would like to support the development of these open app tools” - I don’t think we have a solid product-market fit, so this quoted statement is just a hypothesis.

It is a hypothesis, for sure, but one based on over a decade of being at the heart the social enterprise/ co-operative movement in the UK and from the exceedingly positive responses I get where sharing info about Loomio and Cobudget :) (and the pretty large uptake of Loomio has already seen all over the world)

I like that you're thinking in terms of 'solid product-market fit', but I'm not at all convinced that having that is a prerequisite to a successful crowdfunding campaign for this project. In case you missed it, people have already crowdfunded significant amounts of cash just to make some potato salad!

I've not used bountysource yet myself, I've just noticed it seems to have some traction in the crowdfunding open source software project space. Other particularly platforms suitable for this include http://goteo.org and http://funding.openinitiative.com/ (of course, no reason why we couldn't opt for kickstarter/ indiegogo etc too if people thought that was best).

But, yes, I think we can and should try to raise a significant sum of money in order to move this project along faster.

I'd really love to here from the developers here what sort of money they think would be needed :)

thanks for the screencast @vitaliyangelovfili ! Very interesting. It is definitely aligned with the functionality of Enspiral Accounts (whatever we're calling it - maybe time to come up with a better name than "the backend"?)

@josefdaviescoates okay, you won me with the potato-salad :D I'm in with helping :)
Regarding money - I guess we should think in terms of people involved and their respective hour rates. Thinking about it lean we should focus raising money for 1-2 max full stack developers for 2-3 months of work. If we manage to get enough money for them to live - they can focus their entire work day only for that. But I guess this is a discussion that's more appropriate if we take it here: https://www.loomio.org/d/prEuVUSj/raise-funds-to-support-open-app-ecosystem-development

@alanna Do you have screenshots or screencast of Enspiral Accounts?

@vitaliyangelovfili - nice screencast! Question: what does "outcome" mean? Is that the difference between income and profit, and is distributed to the people who worked on whatever? Or something else?
