Internet!

JK Jorån Kikke Public Seen by 372

Right now we have temporary month-by-month internet

What actual internet shall we get? The area is fibred, but we're not sure if the building has been connected or not

Fibre sounds happy?

Do we get a better deal if we stay with provider who gives us the temporary internet right now? Ideally we'd like something without binding contracts if possible. Here is a comparison site for what's available on our address: https://goo.gl/G7Kjbl

Skinny seems cheapest with their no contract $68/month deal. Just needs setup cost of ~$150 (less if we can find someone selling their router)

Craig has offered some discount fibre, just pinged him now for more info

Fibre would be cool, I'd say do the month by month with the current system till Hackland is self sustaining, then have a look at 12 month contracts or similar, contracts might save us some $$ and we may be able to wangle free set up and routers etc, if we tell them we are a non profit full of awesome people and promise to put up a sign or similar and are committed for a period.

Building does not have fibre installed yet and it seems to be a little bit of a battle with a neighbour to get it down from the street to our section. So path of least resistance is to go with unlimited VDSL for now (https://www.broadbandunlimited.nz/) on a monthly term. We have a router here that should be suitable.

Skinny Unlimited VDSL $68 a month Closed Thu 29 Jun 2017 1:01AM

Our existing temporary internet is over capacity and costs over $80 a month, we can get much faster VDSL unlimited for $68 on another open contract.

This means we don't have to wait for fibre to be installed but we can also try and get this done (which is likely to take a month or two) but still have our internet pipes flowing nicely

As it's open contract, faster, unlimited and cheaper than what we currently have (with sketchy 4G)

I agree with this because I see the process of getting fibre installed could take much longer than a month or 2 due to chorus' bad communication and neighbours that have particular opinions on house facades without visible wiring.
