Proposal 4 Closed Fri 13 May 2016 10:03PM

Metrics are methodologically weak ways of assessing teaching (or research). We are not fans of TEF or REF. We should ignore it. Ideally. But also, what about institutions who are more into questioning rather than number crunching? We are scared it might be automated and based on learning analytics...
However, on a positive side: the TEF may be better than the NSS for all institution: maybe we will get a better, more truthful picture of what is happening at universities. Maybe Oxford would NOT show up as all that awesome, if looking at the learning analytics properly... So I guess the pitch is: let's do it. Let's shine. And then be really honest and transparent abotu the results.

it is important the TEF does not lead to stagnation (eg if the results are good). But everything is abotu the money ...
And looking at graduate employment, that's just terrible.
So we need to topple the government who brings in all this shit. TOPPLE.
Finally - relate the TEF to performance related pay and individual appraisals.

Nobody should ever ignore feedback received. Also I see graduate employment as a very important component of teaching quality and institutional guidance.

Toppling the government isn't in the power of this group. The proposal to go along with the TEF is just business as usual.

We cannot ignore our context.
I think you miss the point about what Oxford is doing right.

Govt need ways in which they can exercise some level of control over a public sector HE are always going the be there...TEF is just the next one....disagree with linking TEF to salary...

I will work to get have high marks for TEF because it is my job - but not sure it will lead to better conditions for students. Will it impact my job? Probably but I am not sure aligning it with my pay will help me or my work. Wait and see?
