AGM 2020 location and venue ideas

GL Gareth L Public Seen by 49

Another year means another AGM. This itself is usually a short 30 minute affair to vote for new directors and other motions raised, with all members invited to attend and vote. Last year we were at Newspeak House in London and linked in with a wikidata meetup that followed.

Suggestions and ideas of venues please for May-July period.

Can we make a decision. I and others are holding off planning other things.

Hi @trigpoint - we need a volunteer to contact Stuart at ODI Leeds to check room availability on those dates that proved popular above (i.e. those days scoring 6+ if you manually add Brian's scoring in). June gives us more time to prepare than May so that would be my preference.

I agree on June, but based on Brian's comment I have chosen June 13th to lead a walk, so no longer available on that day.

Just wondering if there's been any progress on the dates here, as I'm looking to arrange other things around May/June now? Do we know if it will definitely be one of Sat 30 May, Sat 6 June, Sat 20 June, or Sat 27 June (as mentioned above)? Many thanks.

Hi Robert,

I am finalising a booking for Leeds on Saturday 27 June as we speak.

Format TBD. Suggestions for activities welcome. Combining with a guest group worked well for the last two years so that would be my starting point.

Hi JezHave we signed a contract yet? The Quakers Friend Meeting House Leeds is about half the cost. Activity Item:quarterly program plan for teh next year

Given that June may well be peak coronavirus epidemic in the UK. I think we should cancel our AGM as a physical event

I think Brian is right. A video conference will be suitable replacement - I have used Skype and Cisco for meetings - but I dont know the cost. Any other video conference solutions known by anyone? Free is best.

Totally agree. I have cancelled our booking with ODI Leeds and am now researching online events.

The AGM part is fairly straightforward, but what we decide to do as other activity is totally open.

The obvious choice is signing up some presenters. It has the benefit of being predictable, and people don't have to interact if they don't want to.

The other side could be some form of interactive discussion, or a simultaneous mapping activity, or a workshop. Takes more organisation, is less predictable, but could be more fun.... suggestions welcome...organisers even more so..

It is clear that it is going to be a challenge to hold an in-person AGM this year. As such we will proceed with an online AGM. More details coming soon.
