Features proposal: preview new comments in thread list on group pages

If I'm looking at the thread list in my group page, and a thread has one new comment, the only way I can read that comment at present is to load an entirely new page (the thread page), and try to find the new comment. The longer and more branched threads get, the more resources (load time and seek time) this consumes. Would it be possible to have a button in the thread list, where clicking it allows me to open the new comment under the thread title (pushing the title of the next thread down to the end of that comment box), and clicking it again returns to the normal thread list? This could be allowed for a maximum number of new comments, maybe 1-3 (maybe configurable by coordinators), beyond which the user is probably better served by going to the thread page anyway.

I'd like to meet this "update me since I last checked in" need by rending a "wall" of content.

A page where you see each thread's title and truncated context, followed by new content since you last read. I've been designing the system to be able to do this, that's why threads are all their own card, and why you can load parts of threads in.

This also means we don't overcomplicate the index view of threads.

Sounds like Linkedin & Co. The only issue I have therewith is that I often find it very confusing, as I'm using Linkedin in multiple contexts, say A, B, C. So a "wall" that has posts from the various contexts one after the other, e.g. A1, B1, A2, C1, A3, B2, C2, A4, A5, B3, … requires a context switch on every item. Which quickly results in not really reading anymore.

If this wall were to be specific to groups and subgroups, however, that's something else.

Yes that's the idea. Loomio 2.0 will be much more organisation oriented.

Rather than directing people to a global dashboard and inbox by default we'll put unread filters and wall functions within the organisation's scope. These changes will land in beta (without the wall) in the next couple of days.

There will still be an all groups view but we know that most users only have one org on Loomio, and our champions within the organisation are more satisfied when the screen has their org's name and branding and they know that everyone is seeing the same stuff.
