CAKE's Mission statement

JA Jim Anastassiou Public Seen by 223

Our recent initiative of expanding the awareness of the custodian to the Sensorica network, ACES-CAKE, as a traditionally run non-profit organisation, requires a mission statement.

I am going straight for a proposal.

Jim, thanks for kicking this off, and don't take the disagreements to be opposed to the idea, just wanting more discussion and refinement. But on the details, I agree with Fabio.

I think also it's a bit long. Without the part of what is Sensorica, it will be good

Umbrella. I like that word. Can we use " an umbrella organization" somewhere ?

JA

Jim Anastassiou Tue 22 Sep 2015 8:13PM

Hi like that too...already use it often in this context: Sensorica should be the umbrella for all open source hardware projects"

I like the idea to define more clearly the vision. However, I find the proposal lot too long and too corporate. I believe Sensorica should not be mentionned.

Some definitions that could nurtute the mission :

  • "CAKE provides support services to facilitate collaboration, sharing and participation, helping entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses." (aces-cake.org)
  • "An ecosystem that is striving to create a new world. CAKE is part of the emerging collaborative and sharing economy. We are a living lab for technological and social innovation, for creating and refining advanced collaborative entrepreneurial practices. We also act as a catalyst at the center of a large ecosystem of local and international organizations that spearhead new economic trends." (aces-cake.org)
  • "An academy is an institution of secondary education or higher learning, research, or honorary membership." (Wikipedia)
  • "The knowledge economy is the use of knowledge (savoir, savoir-faire, savoir-être) to generate tangible and intangible values." (Wikipedia)

Thus, there seem to be different words clouds

  • collaborative economy, sharing economy, network, entrepreneurship
  • promoting awareness, knowledge, learning, education
  • collaborative production, collaborative practices, participation, catalyst
  • tools, fiscal sponsorship, custodian, living lab, counselling
  • technological and social innovation, open innovation, democratizing technologies, preserving the common good *projects, networks and individuals

so I would tend towards - with some other focus - to

The Canadian Academy for the Knowledge Economy helps organizations build sustainable performance through large-scale collaboration and open innovation.

@jimanastassiou - I think ACES-CAKE might be a good umbrella, but disagree with "Sensorica should be the umbrella for all open source hardware projects".

Too grandiose, too presumptive, will make other open source hardware projects question our motives.
