New Directors

R RobJN Public Seen by 31

As per our Articles of Association all Directors will stand down at the first meeting so that we can hold full elections. Current Directors may stand for election as can members of the Company.

Please use this thread to start discussing if you intend to stand for election.

I intend to stand for election and will provide a manifesto in the coming days :-)

I have received email confirmations from all the existing Directors that they are resigning wef from our first meeting. So I guess nominations are now open. We currently don't have a specific set of rules on how to run elections other than voting will be by STV. I suggest we wait and see how many nominations arrive (if we get more than five we need an election, if not we don't). When we've decided when the first meeting will be and whether it's an AGM or an ordinary meeting(different periods of notice are required) we can agree when nominations should close.
Self-nomination seems an acceptable initial process.

I intend to stand for election. (Is that just me and Rob so far?)

If a vote does need to take place, than I shall make sure to provide a manifesto. If not, then instead I might do a "who I am" introduction.

I know who you are but others might not so I think it'd still be a good idea.

After giving this some thought I have decided to stand too. I think I'll jump right in and provide a bio here. If an election is needed, it would probably be good if there was a separate page where voters can look at our bios/manifestos without having to pick through a discussion thread.

I'm Jon, a tech entrepreneur and map geek from Yorkshire. I've been in IT all my adult life and have a PhD in Computing Science. I've been a Limited Company director since 1999, and founded my current software company (SpiffyMap) in 2009, so I know a lot about company law and accounting requirements. I'm a member of the Federation of Small Businesses and the British Cartographic Society as well as the OSM Foundation.

I've been involved in OpenStreetMap since the State of the Map in Limerick in 2008, and have been to lots of other SotMs around the world from Tokyo to San Francisco. I was part of the team who organised SotM in Birmingham in 2013. I've been involved in various working groups of the OSMF in the past (not currently). I've been a supporter of Local Chapters since they were first talked about in 2009 and would like to help make OSM UK a success.

I am also standing to be one of the Directors.

I joined OpenStreetMap in February 2011 and have been contributing ever since. My day-job is unrelated to OpenStreetMap/GIS but I feel I can still bring a lot to the Company.

I have been a member of the Mappa Mercia (West Midlands) community since 2012 and was part of the team that helped to organise State of the Map 2013. After a break, I returned to organising State of the Map and led the working group for State of the Map 2016. I continue as lead in that working group.

Other than mapping my local area, my main passion is in building the community and this is one of the reasons why I helped facilitate the set-up of this Company. It is an area I look forward to working on.

Make more noise! We're not recognised enough: we need more mappers, more skilled mappers and more collaboration from organisations. Basically we need to get together and work together on common goals to build and grow a UK community - quarterly projects are a good start.
