Proposal: e-NABLE Medellín product development, education program, and operational efficiency
Hi all, we at e-NABLE Medellín have had a wonderfully productive year! With the steady growth of our operations, we can confidently say that we are no longer a start-up initiative, but a fast-growing organisation with great potential to contribute to our local and global community.
2020 is looking bright with 7 products in development, 3 community education and engagement programs, and 4 operational process improvements.

Hi all, we at e-NABLE Medellín have had a wonderfully productive year! With the steady growth of our operations, we can confidently say that we are no longer a start-up initiative, but a fast-growing organisation with great potential to contribute to our local and global community.
The key to our continued success is the contribution of Esteban Rojas Muñoz, our only engineer on a paid contract. Esteban is responsible for all the daily operations, as well as current and upcoming projects.
We kindly ask the e-NABLE community to support us and fund US$9585.64 for us to keep Esteban within our organisation and to stay on track to achieve our 2020 goals.
2020 is looking bright with 7 products in development, 3 community education and engagement programs, and 4 operational process improvements. We have the following activities that benefit the global e-NABLE community in the pipeline:

Robotic arm V2
Ultrasonic arm with sensor for those with limited vision V2
Leg device below the knee
Shoulder / above elbow
Accessories
Covers for IV drips in hospitals
Mobile intake application for collecting data from recipients

Youth social leadership program for digital fabrication
Upskilling of local university students - we currently have 4 confirmed annual projects with local universities and 2 practicantes/final year students working with us 25 hours a week as part of the practical components of their bioengineering degrees.
Upskilling of additional e-NABLE chapters (we recently trained 2 people who traveled from Panama to learn from us and establish their own chapter)

You and your team have done wonderful work, and you are a great credit to e-NABLE! However, I have to disagree with your proposal on fundamental grounds. The awarding of mini-grants from the Enable Fund via Loomio is intended for specific projects that are of benefit to the entire community. They are not intended as general support of staff for any specific chapter to work on a variety of projects. You can imagine many chapters would like support from the fund.

I'm sorry, I have to agree with @Bob Rieger on this one. As he explained, basically it's "the rules" here.😞 (He put it much better than I could... but I do remember reading that when I signed up on Loomio for this....)

Hi Adam, Indeed, your table contains many good initiatives that are of interest to the general community. My concern was, and is, about setting future precedent. The proposal is written to support a staff member who will work on projects, but also in other more general areas like Operations Efficiency. Would you consider modifying your proposal to select a few of the more specific projects like the Robotic arm, Leg Prosthetic and Ultrasonic arm, and request funding for those with specific amounts and timetables? I am only a single vote, but for me that would remove the precedent concern by keeping it project-focused. Please understand that I also am a volunteer who spends time in the US fund-raising for the Enable Fund, and I find explaining projects a much easier sell to prospective donors.

This group has done several great designs. And produced extensive reports on the usage and results of those designs. I think this is great work for our community.

Thanks Daniel. This is valuable feedback. We have included time lines, strategy and deliverables in the table. Perhaps we need to provide more details on each aspect of the program and deliverables?

Hey all. Please keep the specific feedback coming. This is all very valuable. I am currently taking some much needed time with family over christmas however the team and I are watching this space closely to see how we can learn to improve our proposal so we can continúe to deliver to our community and on our promises in 2020. Hi Bob, the proposal contains several projects which benefit the entire community ranging from new product developments to toolkits and apps which will be public to all the enable community in 2 languages. Considering several of the last approved grants were for product development (nate munro proposal), web/app development (Simón) anf and all Paid tríp to África with a 3 month wage included i would say our proposal is at least as strong and carries many benefits for the wider community at a cheaper annual cost than previous proposals. Please have a good look at the table in the full proposal to see that these are not medellin chapter specific projects.
