Where in New Zealand - towns/cities/regions/venues

MM Matt McGregor Public Seen by 353

CCANZ have already committed to holding events in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch. We've also heard from some others about potential events elsewhere in Aotearoa (including Dunedin and Whanganui).

This thread is for offers / suggestions / brainstorming about towns/cities/regions and potential venues for the events.

Would be happy to host one at the House of Science Tauranga.

We're keen to host one in Whanganui - we have a learning space in the central city :)

What about venues in the main centres? Venues will ideally have a largish, open-ish space, where tables can be arranged, food can be served and people can generally mill around.

Here are some ideas:

Wellington: Royal Society of New Zealand
Auckland: AUT
Christchurch: CPIT

There may also be various school halls that could do the job, and the universities may have spaces we could book.

In CHCH the CORE Education office could host an event.

I would like to see this happen in Hamilton. But willing to travel to Auckland for it (I'm always traveling to Auckland for events...)

Hi all - just pencilling in some initial venues, looking towards a website and poster. It might be worth us mentioning the areas on the poster, but point people to the website to confirm the specific venue. This will enable us to make an announcement, without having to confirm everything right this minute.

But here's what I have so far:

Auckland: TBD
Wellington: TBD
Christchurch: Core Education - @paulaeskett
Tauranga: House of Science - @chrisduggan1
Whanganui: Double Farley - @melita
Dunedin: University of Otago - @richardwhite

Hi, I mentioned this event to Peter Reutemann (Waikato University). The University may be interested in running something in Hamilton (they did do GovtHack).
Have let him know about this group.

Hi, I'm at Waikato Uni too and able to help organise space and logistics here.

Yep, as it's a good fit for the school holidays, though I don't think we considered the university calendar as much. Do those dates work for you? I think we'll leave it to each region to decide if they want to do one day or both.
