Introductions Round

I'm Danyl Strype, but most people just call me Strypey. I've been a long time activist for the environment, social justice, independent media, and digital rights. I was one of the founders of Aotearoa Indymedia and CreativeCommons Aotearoa/ NZ, and founder of the Aotearoa Permaculture Network. I've been involved in setting up and running a number of social centres, and independent media spaces around Aotearoa. I'm currently writing a book about spending a year with no internet, working title 'Email Ate Me Life'.

I'm involved in the Pirate Party of NZ, a member of the Internet Party (watching that space), and a supporter of Mana, Cannabis Party, New Economics, and to some extent the Greens (although their mixed vote on the Harmful Digital Censorship Act is just the latest example of how confused they seem to be getting on policy). I intend to assemble a cross-party technical working group to create a PolicyHub website, where groups can collaboratively develop policy, and import, or 'fork' and modify, each others' policy work.
Update: This is being fleshed out as a Disintermedia project under the working title Gitocracy.

@pilotfever you gave an introduction in the October15 discussion. Would you be willing to delete it from there (somewhat off topic there ;) ) and post it here?

Hi Strypey, if the goal is to have a General Assembly on Parliament Grounds on October 15th (as I believe it was), then my post is in the correct place. I have little interest in movements without clearly defined goals supported by the leadership (if any). For now, I am just a member of the public.

it's been a long time since i've been on here, i get the emails and read them, but i'm not in NZ and i'm not sure what to do or say to help.

I still go be the name TC (tall chick). i still have my Occupy the world t-shirt i started while in NZ. Occupy was fun! a bunch of humans got to sit around and talk and hear different ideas. i think we all left with a much bigger picture of the world. each group i was involved with was doing something different! gardens got set up on roofs and grounds and fences, tons of homeless actions and a much better understanding of the issues the different types of homeless people deal with, i got to help save a homeless shelter from shut down, tons of internet actions and lots of arts and crafts with signs and creative ways to share information.
i still work with food-not-bombs, i still WWOOF.org and i constantly leave the link thevenusproject.com around.
i'd like to do more group actions that i can believe in. i'm tired of traveling and asking what happened to the forest that looked like it was once here? is this water save to swim in (i know that my Earth has next to no safe drinking water anymore). too much packaging, oil, war, air-ocean-land pollutions, just plain too much stuff, jobs that waste time, energy and all resources.

do people not care? is it too much for most people to deal with? are people just stupid? has marketing so totally brainwashed people? maybe we are all too busy and full of ourselves to do anything about the world we live on... idk but somethings gota give.
so thats me and my thoughts...id really like to stop thinking about this shit, so if we could fix the world i'd greatly appreciate it.

p.s. and i think our word choices are a huge key (like in the book 1984). just cause a label can fit doesn't mean it's helpful.

Interesting mention of thevenusproject. Personally I was condsidering walking people through the Technocracy Study Guide over a couple of months to bring literacy to the disparate branches of Occupy and adding in my observations of the last 15 years - specifically promoting the parallel domestic currency based on a renewable energy credit as an unconditional basic income to mitigate income inequality for a sustainable and environmentally economic New Zealand. I did something similar long before Loomio at the wonderful open air Luminate festival and with a very supportive Rainbow. Jumpstart the solution by expressing some interest in kilowattcards.com ( http://kilowattcards.com ). Also ask yourself what Kim Dotcom, John Key, Lord Sewel and George W have in common...
